Background
Echocardiography is commonly applied method for diagnosis of very rare diseases of the heart. In some cases this method must be completed by more advanced techniques, for example magnetic resonance imaging (MR). Magnetic resonance imaging is very useful in defining proper diagnosis and treatment. In our case report we showed that echocardiography can give false positive picture of cardiac fibroma in patient with hypertrophy cardiomyopathy.
Material and methods
We presented the case of a 41-year-old man with hypertrophy cardiomyopathy and fibroma of ventricular septum detected by echocardiography.
Results
On the basis of heart magnetic resonance imaging we excluded cardiac fibroma and confirmed hypertrophy cardiomyopathy. We indicated that treatment with calcium blockers was beneficial in hypertrophy cardiomyopathy with ventricular arrhythmias. We also observed improvement of quality of life in the patient.
