3/2007The students’ opinion on the prophylaxis of diseases and healthy mode of life among children in pre-school age

Material and methods
The 181 students of 4th year of medicine in Warsaw, 126 women (70%) and 55 men (30%) were studied. Students in especially prepared inquiry estimated the development of speech using an illustrated test and made measurements of mass of body, growth and BMI.

Results
The study showed that according to students prophylaxis among children in pre-school age should be based on suitable diet, i.e. containing well balanced nutritious components and proper amount of kilocalories (73% students). Overweight and obesity is an important problem in children, they can lead serious cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in future. The diet is equally important in the speechtherapist’s care (70% students) in prophylaxis of speech impairment. On the third place there was dentist’s care (63%) and on the fourth place some-what over half questioned (53%) recognized as important in children inoculation against: Streptococcus pneumoniae, Hemophilus influenzae, virus hepatitis type A or influenza.
