3/2007Analysis the main causes of pain in middle-aged people in family doctor’s practice

Background
Ache is one of the main causes which essentially reduce standard of life.

Material and methods
Anonymous survey concerning chosen pain aspects was carried out in women and men in middle age. The patients were asked to fill in the questionnaires and throw them into the ballot box located in community health center “Ogrody” in Bydgoszcz City.

Results
A thousand questionnaires have been given out. We gained the information from 171 (aged 35–65) women and 49 (aged 44–60) men. The kind of pain which appeared the most frequently in studied population were: headache and migraine, backache, muscleache, limbache, a pain in nape of the neck and regarding women – a pain during the menstruation (including: sensitive breast, cramp in the bottom of stomach). The type of pain which was observed most often in mature women was headache and migraine. In mature men on the other hand,the type of pain which was observed most often was backache. Depression is one of the most important elements which intensifies sense of pain. The reason of many back illnesses, muscles and joints pain are diseases typical for older people, avoiding physical exercises and spending free time in actively. Menstruation troubles were often and sometimes mentioned by women.
