KRZYSZTOF DOBOSZ (Poradnia Ogólna NZOZ Przychodnia Rejonowa „Ogrody” w Bydgoszczy; Kierownik: lek. stom. Andrzej Zieliński)
Background
All the recommendations emphasize positive influence of increased physical activity on lung function and on the appearance and course of COPD.
Material and methods
In Bydgoszcz, adults were invited to undergo spirometry, free of charge, preceded by a questionnaire and the measurement of basic anthropometric parameters. Region 1 included patients of POZ “Ogrody” and 4 other community health centres located in the districts of ”Wyżyny” and ”Kapuściska”, whereas region 2 included the remaining patients of community health centres in Bydgoszcz.
Results
A total of 1225 subjects participated in the study. 313 of them reported increased physical activity, with-in that statistically more frequently (p < 01) people from region 2 vs 1. The significance of reported physical activity by both sexes and in age groups was not affirmed (< 40 years of age vs = 40 years of age) whereas physical
activity did not depend on the age or sex of the examined people. COPD defined by a FEV1/FVC ratio < 0.7, was detected in 188 subjects (15.34%). Significantly (p < 001) more seldom obturation was diagnosed in those phsically more active (n/N: 21/313 vs 167/912). An abnormal result of spirometry occurred less frequently in region 1 (10/131 vs 87/465; p < 01) and in 2 (11/182 vs 80/447; p < 001), in male subjects (5/127 vs 65/364; p < 001) and female subjects (16/186 vs 102/548; p < 01) and in the age group of = 40 (18/261 vs 135/744; p < 001).
